Atlanta Puppetry Guild - January 2005 E-Mail-Newsletter This is the first E-Mail Newsletter for the Atlanta Puppetry Guild which is going out in large part to inform you of the next Guild Meeting and other upcoming events, some of which will occur before our first full 2005 newsletter will come out. Our guild officers have decided to expand the number of guild meetings per year, but our official newsletter schedule will remain at four editions per year, which will hopefully allow me to continue providing a quality newsletter while maintaining my sanity. Speaking of which, if you have any interesting stories, news, upcoming events, etc, which ought to appear in the next full newsletter, please start getting those to me now. I don't have an official publication schedule yet, but I can already tell that I'm going to have a hectic winter and spring, so the sooner you can get things to me, the better. --------------------------------------------------- Upcoming Atlanta Puppet Guild Meeting --------------------------------------------------- When? Sunday, February 13th, 2005 Where? Jeff Cornett's house 5326 Pheasant Run, Stone Mountain, GA 30087 Phone: 770-492-1394 Directions: Take Stone Mountain Parkway (Highway 78) heading east outside of I-285. Exit at Mountain Industrial Boulevard and turn left at the top of the ramp. Go north to Hugh Howell Rd. (gas station on the right, Wachovia on the left). Turn right onto Hugh Howell. The first light is Stratmor Drive / McCurdy Road - don't turn yet! Keep going past the light and take the next left - Deer Ridge. Turn right at the first street, Oxbow, go to the first stop sign, and turn left onto Antelope. Follow Antelope 7/10 of a mile to the first left, Fawn Ridge. Jeff's driveway is on Fawn Ridge, the first one after Pheasant Run intersects. What's Happening? We will view the Puppet Fest 2005 DVD to learn more about the National Festival, discuss National Day of Puppetry Plans, and potential ideas for the growth of the guild. What's Cooking? Meaty chili, cornbread, and non-diet soft drinks will be provided. We need someone to make meatless chili for our vegetarian members and others can bring items for desert. If you can do the meatless chili, let me (Kevin) know and I'll pass that information on to the officers. --------------------------------------------------- Upcoming Atlanta Puppet Guild Elections --------------------------------------------------- The offices of Treasurer and President will be up for election at the April guild meeting. Interested parties can learn about the job description by checking with current President Lee Bryan (lee@puppetguy.com) or Treasurer Tricia Berrett (tbberrett@aol.com). Both these officers have served two consecutive terms and new officers must be elected. (Hint: if you want to run, it might be a good idea to come to the February 13th meeting so that everyone can get to know you a little better before elections occur.) --------------------------------------------------- Other Guild News --------------------------------------------------- National Day of Puppetry is Saturday, April 23rd. This year's celebration will be at Centennial Olympic Park in downtown Atlanta. More details to come. Guest Puppeteers: Lee Bryan is going to try hosting some of the visiting Center guest puppeteers for informal gatherings at his place. So watch for email notifications. Marionette Workshop: Gregg Wallace is currently working on getting Andy Bremer's information together on a price and possible dates for the elusive marionette workshop. Adult Education Classes. In an effort to encourage new membership, we will begin taking a more active stance in promoting the guild at the adult education classes offered at the Center for Puppetry Arts, and in turn we will begin advertising these classes in the guild newsletter. One idea under discussion is forming a refreshment committee to possibly provide light snacks at some of the Center's classes. Contact our Vice President, Gregg Wallace (greggwallace@compuserve.com) if you are interested in helping out. Upcoming classes: * February 26, 2005 - Behind the Scenes of Rumplestiltskin with Bobby Box Free with purchase of a ticket to the 3 PM performance - class begins at 4 PM in the Downstairs Theater. Puppet Fest 2005 National Puppet Festival July 24th through 30th, 2005 in Minnesota - more information at http://www.puppetfest2005.org/ That's all for now - see you at the February meeting!
