Memberships in the PofA all came up for renewal this past May. If you still need to renew, you can do so very easily via the PofA website: http://www.puppeteers.org/membership.html Atlanta Puppetry Guild memberships were also up for renewal this past May, but we've made a few changes in how that works. For this year, if you were already a member last year, then we're giving you a break - no renewal fees this year. For new members, it's only $10 ($15 for a dual membership), so if you're not already a member, join today! http://www.atlantapuppetryguild.org/join/ ------------------------------------------ Minutes from the February 26, 2006 meeting ------------------------------------------ The meeting was held at the home of Carol Daniel. Present were Tricia and Bob Berrett, Carol Daniel, Barbara Goltz, Greg Wallace, Peter and MaryAnn Hart, Lorna Sampsell, and Tim Montheith. We had a great potluck dinner with lots of good conversation. Tricia told us about an exhibit at Red, 1110 West Peachtree Street, that she thinks we might enjoy. President, Peter Hart brought the meeting to order. Tricia Berrett, Treasurer, reported that we have $2085.01 in the bank. Membership chairman, Barbara Goltz, reported that we are still in the process of going through old membership lists to determine who truly wants to be active in the guild. We discussed website renewal. Kevin indicated that although we might be able to save a few dollars, it would be a lot of trouble to change to a different web host company, so we all decided we would stay where we are. A decision was made to have Kevin do a newsletter AFTER a meeting to reflect the activities of that meeting. He will continue to send out notices of meetings, and any other pertinent information in a timely fashion. We discussed security issues with our website, and decided to change the password to something easier to spell. We are still thinking about ways to secure address and phone numbers to members only. We discussed the National Day of Puppetry. We feel that the reason for that special day is to promote the art form. The Center of Puppetry Arts does a very good job of that, so it probably is not something that we can do to benefit the art form any more. We discussed cyber meetings, as a possible replacement for physical meetings. The group seemed to feel that they prefer to have actual physical meetings, but that the Internet is certainly useful for information updates, and that in the future we will very likely use the Internet in more ways to enhance our communication. The actual meeting was adjourned. Kevin showed us some of his beautiful new animal puppets. Tim shared with us some of his puppets he uses in his adult puppetry act in a local club. We watched a one-hour movie about Igor Fokin, a Russian born puppeteer who came to America, worked as a street performer in Boston, and died at the age of only 36. ------------------------------------- Minutes from the May 21, 2006 meeting ------------------------------------- The meeting was held at the home of Carol Daniel. We had great attendance: Matt and Alice Adler, Walter and Betsy Stark, Lorna Sampsell, Tim Monteith, Rosemary Glenn, Sandee Carder, Virginia Petersen, Bob and Tricia Berrett, Barbara Goltz, Lee Bryan, Kevin Pittman, Nancy Riggs, and Carol Daniel We began, as usual, with a potluck dinner. Then a short business meeting. The main thing was the decision to waive membership dues for one year to members who had paid for this year. We discussed meeting dates for the upcoming meetings. Ultimately the meeting dates have changed The new dates are: September 17 at 5:00 at Jeff Cornett's house for pot luck followed by a screening of "Strings" November 5 at 5:00 at Rosemary Glenn's house for her and Andy Bremer's traditional spaghetti dinner Carol Daniel and Barbara Goltz agreed to serve as secretary and membership chairpersons for another year. The meeting was adjourned. Tim Monteith performed a wonderful, short Elvis Presley in a casket skit that he will do in his night club act. Nancy Riggs performed the new Piccadilly Puppets Company show ONCE UPON A TIME IN CHINA. --------------------------------------------- Puppetry Happenings Around Atlanta and Beyond --------------------------------------------- This August, the One Way Street Puppet Ministry, featuring local Atlanta puppeteer Sandee Carder, will be performing their current cross-country touring show in Centreville, GA.
